How to Get Better Search Engine Rankings?

Up until now, I have talked about having strong keywords to increase traffic. Well, you may be asking, “How do I get traffic?”

I am going to clarify this in a minute.

Lets get started.. but first..

What is SEO?

SEO is a short abbreviation for Search Engine Optimization. It is a way to improve the visibility of your website so that it can get ranked higher in the results page of a search engine, such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.

Why is SEO so important?

SEO helps bring quality audience (traffic) to your website, increases visibility of your website and increases your credibility your website needs to be successful. Having SEO allows the search engine understand your website better and in return you get higher rankings. You have an advantage over your competition in the same niche who doesn’t have SEO to rank higher in the search engine, which means more sales.

Would you look at the first page of your search results or the 10th page?

Are you ready for the fun part?

Where can I get SEO for my website?

At WordPress, they have a “All in One SEO” plugin that is included when you build your website.

How to improve website rankings?

1. You want to write and publish quality contentno-copy-no-paste

When you create your content, you want to focus on who (target audience) will be reading your website. You need to create content that is important and interesting to people. Do your own work and don’t copy other people’s work.

2. Keep your posts and pages updated often

Search engines like content to be kept current which lets them indicate your website is relevant. If you don’t keep it current, then your ranking will decrease in the search engine.

3. Have relevant links within your own content

Using a keyword, such as Read more about Wealthy Affiliate Program improves the ranking in search engines and the page you are linking to compared to “Read here.”

4. Have a good title in your title

Put your keywords in the title. You want it relevant to your target audience so they will click on your page. Search engines display titles as the first sentence in the search engine results page, so make sure it makes sense.

5. Placement of longtail keywords

You want to place your keywords in your title, the first paragraph and near the end of your content. You will want to type in these keywords in a keyword tool to see how competitive those words are. Your keywords are something you think your target audience will type into their search.

6. Get good external links

Make sure you have quality content , so people will want to link to your content when they find your website. This indicates to search engines that your content is relevant in your niche website, which explains why people are linking your content.

7. Content with an image or more

I don’t think anyone has the patience to read a blob of words. Have a good amount of images within your text to keep your target audience intrigued, but don’t overdo it.

Don’t bore your audience..long-tail-keywords

8. Fast loading sites

Your credibility is on the line. If your website is loading slow, then you lose the patience and trust of your target audience.

9. Increase your sharing of content socially

This is where you can share your content on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google +, Linked in and many more. You know the saying, “Gossip spreads like wildfire?” Content is spread similarly when people like and share your content with other people GLOBALLY.

10. Make your content through videoyoutube

Making videos regarding your content is popular today. YouTube is well known and there is a large audience who watches and shares videos on there everyday on social media.

11. Make your website mobile friendly

20 years ago, technology was not as advanced, so if we were searching something on the internet, we would have to get on our desktop computer. Well today, there are lots of technology such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and more that does not have to be at a permanent location to work. They can use it anywhere. Make sure that your website works for these types of technology so you get more visits to your website.

12. Make your website language friendly

Not everyone speaks English, so if you have a widget, this can be very beneficial to increasing your target audience. Watch video to learn how to add a widget to translate to other languages.

How to check where your website is ranking?

Jaaxy has a feature that shows where your site is ranked. You can follow up and go to, type in the keywords to search and manually see which page and which position your website is located. Here is a video to follow along with this text.

If you go to, you can sign up for free. They allow 30 free keyword searches and one site rank search. If you become a member, you have unlimited site rank searches. Read my review of Jaaxy to learn more.

1. Once you sign up, you will get to this platform. You would click on the “Site Rank” tab, then type in your keywords under “Keyword”, type in your website domain under “URL,” and then click on the “Search” tab.

2.  For example, image shown below.

3. Your results should show up as “Search History” and indicate which position and page your keyword is at.

4. Then, if you want to confirm your page is where it is at, go to, type in those exact keywords and click on the page and count the position it is at. You don’t count the ad as a position because they paid money to get to the very top of the first page.

5. If money is tight, you can type in your title of your page or post and click the next pages until you find your page. That is another option.

It is a time consuming…

  • Hi Sofia, this was very helpful information for me thank you. I am going to look into the translation widget, I never knew this before. Just a quick question, should my subheadings in my posts be H3,4,or 5 tags, does this help?
    Cheers for this

    • Hello Justine,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Good question. Your subheadings will depend on what your heading was. If your heading was H1, then you have to go in order down to H2 for your subheading. You can’t skip from H1 down to H3. It goes by hierarchy H1 being the most important and H6 being the least important. If it is relevant to your heading, then I think it will help. SEO finds value in H1, H2 and H3. I researched there can be a slight boost if H1 is used one time on each page or post. I hope that helped.

  • Thanks Sofia, wow that is great thanks so much for replying so fast, I am going to make some changes to my posts on my site and see if this works..thank you 🙂

    Hi Sofia,

SEO is, indeed, crucial for content marketers. This is good info and the illustrations are very helpful to anyone seeking higher rankings in the engines.

    • Hi George,
Thank you for commenting. Who wouldn’t want higher rankings? If they’re putting a lot of time and effort into their work then let it be seen.

  • Thanks for the article. I learned some new stuff. I especially liked the info about the translation widget. It doesn’t matter if 2.8 billion people have access to high speed internet when more than half of them don’t speak the same language. That in and of itself can open up whole new groups of people who may not otherwise be able to see/use an English Only website.

I found your Jaaxy series of pics to be especially helpful. Instead of telling me how Jaaxy tracks a website for its content ranking, you showed me. Good Stuff.

    • Hello Jeff,
Thank you for your comment. I am glad you learned some new stuff. We only grow if we are willing to learn. I try my best to read my posts and think what would someone who is new to the field have a question about. I try to put myself in their shoes because I was in their shoes not long ago. In my professional career I am still in, I usually utilize the tell, show and do method. Whether they take my recommendation or not, I can clearly see their results in 6 months when they come back to get their teeth cleaned. I am glad you found my post helpful.

  • Your site looks great, Sofia! What a great article! That is fantastic that your articles are ranking on page 1 of Google! The proof is in the photos! I agree – long tailed keywords are the way to go. Much less competition, but still people searching. It doesn’t make sense to do it any other way!

    • Hi Debbie,
Thank you for commenting. Long tailed keywords are the way to go. This is where the target audience is ready to make a sale for you. We don’t want to be at a high competition because then you’re going to have a hard time being found by your target audience.
